WE did a Whistler prayer walk June 13. Our first stop was the ‘Church on 99’ in Squamish – a town of 15,000 people which has only six churches.
We were encouraged by a group that came together for a time of fervent prayer
for a move of God in the area.
Squamish is in our heart, as this little town will soon come into the world’s spotlight. The church members prayed over us, and sent us on our way to
Whistler.
There, we were greeted by pastor Tim Unruh of Whistler Community Church. He led
us to pray over the site of the Olympic Celebration Plaza, and then we prayer
walked to Millennium Place.
This is the site of the Interfaith Centre, where three churches meet regularly:
Jesus is Lord Church; Church on the Mountain; and Whistler Village Church.
We prayed especially for David Wells, who heads the VANOC Interfaith program.
Pastor Tim took us up to Base 2, high over Whistler – where we could pray the burden of Jeremiah 29:7: praying for the shalom of the
city. In the sunshine, Whistler was stunning – with glorious mountain views giving God glory in creation.
We were joined by Tanya from Australia, who is helping to pioneer a 24/7 prayer
room in Whistler during the Olympics. She told us of a young Brit who is
planning to form a local ‘Skateboarders for Christ.’

Also on the journey was Gary, an Anglican vicar from near London who is doing
research into the church and the Olympics in cooperation with More Than Gold
London 2012.
It was exciting to see that the Lord is stirring in the hearts of many to pray
for this area, and for an impact on the nations in 2010 – and beyond. – David & Beth Carson
