THE HEALING power of music has often been attested to, and three B.C.-produced CDs bear this out. Each has been designed to address the healing process in differing ways.

Rest: Inspirations from Taize, is a beautifully performed set of meditations on faith in Christ, which is modeled on the popular worship style of the Taize community in France.

Abbotsford duo Gemma, which consists of soprano Cathy Hardy and harpist Karin Dart, produced the CD to benefit MCC’s Communitas Supportive Care Society.

The duo state, in the liner notes, that God invites us “into the process of being formed into precious stones through times of challenge and darkness in our lives. What we are discovering is the depths of beauty that can emerge from saying ‘Yes’ to God in the midst of our struggles.”

The Healing Piano is one of a series of instrumental albums by Chilliwack worship musician and singer/songwriter Debbie Fortnum.  It consists of restful and melodic pieces, several of which are based on traditional hymns.

Fortnum donates proceeds from CD sales to Canadian Food for the Hungry.

She writes: “Healing hope comes when the loving Nearness whispers His triumph over the wounds that have left their frightening scars . . . The darkness slowly begins to turn into warm Sonlight, giving us courage to continue our journey with hope.”

Unexpected Gifts is the second in the ‘Music for Healing’ series by the Vancouver Chamber Choir. This talented ensemble covers a wide range of material; several of the pieces express Christian faith.

A special two-CD version includes a disc which combines music with dialogue aimed at helping parents who are struggling with serious illnesses afflicting their children.
